This collection was created through a Parsons x AZ Factory collaboration, where I designed a look using assigned fabrics after discussions with the brand’s design team.

San Ba Dao

San Ba Dao is a collection inspired by the symbolic 三把刀 (“Three Knives”) traditionally carried by Fujianese women, blended with the timeless elegance of 1930s menswear. This collection is a dialogue between heritage and nostalgia—an exploration of identity shaped by the tension between East and West. As a designer with Fujianese roots and a Western upbringing, I reimagine these visual codes into garments that carry memory, strength, and timeless elegance.
The three knives were worn by Fujianese women around 1930s as a form of self protection because Southern China was in a time of chaos. Around that same time, Britain is also going through a transition from the austerity of the Great Depression to the approach of WWI. Fashion during this decade is characterized by elegance, sophistication and a move towards more practical fashion.Drawing from these parallel histories, this collection reinterprets the timeless style of 1930s Western fashion through a modern lens, while honoring the strength and cultural legacy of my Fujianese heritage.
