In Loving Memories

In Loving Memories is a five-look collection blending Victorian funeral wear with skiwear. In collaboration with my classmate, we drew inspiration from Queen Victoria’s mourning attire, using black and structured paneling. Skiwear influences add functionality through zippers, pockets, and snaps. A mix of nylon, knit, and lace ties together historical elegance with modern utility.

Inspired by history

This collection draws inspiration from the 1885 British colonization of Myanmar, when King Thibaw was exiled and the royal family’s treasures—including the Padamyar Ngamauk ruby—were taken. At its center is a fictional narrative: a Burmese woman in her 30s, working undercover as a British collaborator, on a mission to reclaim the stolen ruby—an emblem of a displaced monarchy and enduring heritage.

Reinterpreted in clothing

This collection explores the duality of fragility and strength through the narrative of a spy, symbolized by red crystal-embellished fishnet gloves. It weaves together Myanmar’s fluid traditional garments with the structured military attire of British colonialism, creating a visual dialogue of cultural reclamation and resistance. The ruby details serve as a powerful emblem of heritage—taken, yet never lost.
